Getting Here

By Public Transport

Riviera Maya is easily accessible via multiple transit options. The main transit hubs serve the shopping district directly with shuttles, buses, and taxis connecting all major malls.

By Car

If you're driving, central Playa del Carmen sits just off Highway 307 (the Carretera Cancún-Tulum). Turn off at Avenida Constituyentes or Calle 38 Norte to reach the beach and the Quinta Avenida pedestrian strip. Street parking is limited, so the paid lots off Avenida Constituyentes and around Calle 38 are the reliable bet.

By Bus

ADO buses run direct from Cancún International Airport and downtown Cancún to the Playa del Carmen ADO terminal, just off the Quinta Avenida. Colectivos (shared white vans) run every few minutes along Highway 307 between Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum for around 30 to 50 MXN.

Playa del Carmen: The Hub of the Riviera Maya

Playa del Carmen sits halfway between Cancún and Tulum on the Caribbean coast, with the ferry to Cozumel, the Tren Maya station, and the ADO bus terminal all within a short walk of the beach.

The Playa del Carmen ferry terminal links the mainland to Cozumel, and the ADO bus terminal and Tren Maya station sit a few blocks inland, putting the whole Riviera Maya within easy reach.

The Quinta Avenida

The car-free Quinta Avenida runs the length of central Playa del Carmen, one block back from the beach. Shops, restaurants, and bars line it from the ferry terminal up to Calle 38, and everything you need is within a 15-minute walk.

Day Trips in Every Direction

From Playa del Carmen, the Tulum ruins and cenotes are 45 minutes south, the Cozumel reef is a 30-minute ferry ride east, and the Cancún hotel zone is an hour north. It is the natural base for a Riviera Maya trip.
