The Festival of Life and Death Traditions is Xcaret Park's annual Day of the Dead celebration, now in its 17th edition, running 30 October to 3 November 2026. This year the guest state is Michoacán, whose Purépecha traditions anchor the programme of music, dance, theatre and visual art. Activities run from 3:45 PM to 10:30 PM daily inside Xcaret Park, south of Playa del Carmen. Entry is MXN 1,800 (about USD 90) and special ADO buses run from Playa del Carmen and Cancún. The festival is one of the most accessible ways to see a real Mexican Día de los Muertos observance rather than a tourist show.

Mexico's Independence celebrations in Playa del Carmen follow a fixed civic calendar: the Grito on the night of 15 September and the civic-sporting parade on 16 September. The traditional civic venue is Plaza 28 de Julio (Av. 20, Centro). In 2025 the municipality moved the Grito to Estadio Mario Villanueva for crowd capacity; as of 24 August 2026 the 2026 headliner and exact 2026 stage had not been published. Playa del Carmen's 123rd Feria del Carmen fills the Recinto Ferial and Plaza 28 de Julio with live music headliners, fairground rides, food stalls, a fishing-community maritime procession, and family entertainment over roughly a week around July 16, the feast day of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen. Free entry; rides and food are pay-as-you-go.
